University of Reading Built Structure 2020
Bracknell Forest Shelter, Lily Park
Corbett and Tasker were appointed by the University of Reading to advise on the construction for their built structure project, to be built by their 2nd year Architectural students in Lily Hill Park, Bracknell. As part of their studies, the students propose to build a spherical reciprocal frame sculpture with bamboo members, assisted by Architect Piers Taylor of Invisible Studio and James Symon of timber fabricators Xylotek. The reciprocal frame was based on an icosahedron divided into multiple frequencies transformed into a reciprocal frame. A 3D model of the sphere was produced by the architect and the 1:10 scale model was built by Corbett & Tasker.
