St Hilda's Church & Kirkleatham Parish Centre

We worked alongside Chance Da Silva architects to design a new Church for the Redcar community in North East England, to replace an existing building in a poor state of repair. The original plans proposed a new Church and ancillary spaces, including a courtyard and Post Office, using an innovative stressed skin ply trussing system.

The new Church will be a multi-use and flexible space, for use as a place of worship as well as for community meetings. Construction was completed in 2021 on the final design: a finely detailed, straightforward steel portal shed, deep I-joists for the roof, fully filled with insulation and conventional masonry cavity walling. The client has the option to extend again in the future and the design takes this into account.
